If you’re a parent that loves their kids but dreads the summer break, one of the best things to do is to send your kids outside as much as possible. Not only is this going to be good for their mental and physical health, but getting your kids outside and having some space from them can also be good for your mental and emotional health as well.
However, if you have kids that don’t love going outside, you might need to find some ways that you can encourage them to spend more time outdoors and less time in the house with you.
To help you in doing this, here are three ways to trick your kids into spending more time outside this summer.
Keep Your House Cold
People want to stay in environments that are comfortable to them. So if you’re wanting your kids to be more comfortable outside than they are inside, you’ve got to make the outdoors more appealing.
One way you can do this is to make sure that your air conditioner is working well and cranking that cool air up. To get a respite from the freezer that is your house, your kids might just find that being outside in the heat and sunlight is just what they need to thaw out and get more comfortable. Keep in mind, however, that the World Health Organization recommends not keeping your home cooler than about 64 degrees Fahrenheit for the health and safety of everyone in your household.
Offer Lots Of Popsicles
Another thing that you can do to get your kids wanting to spend more time outside is to offer something outside that isn’t available to them inside. And in the summer, one of the best things that can fall into this category is popsicles.
If your kids love popsicles but you don’t love cleaning up all of the mess from the melted popsicles inside of your home, make a new rule that popsicles can only be eaten outside. Then, you can offer your kids healthier popsicle options each day and get them to spend some time outside while they eat them.
Get Some Fun Water Toys
When it’s hot outside, something that all kids love to do is to play with water toys outside. Especially if you live in a place where you can’t play in the water in the winter time, taking advantage of the good summer weather and playing in the water can be a real treat.
To make your kids excited about this, consider getting some fun water toys for your kids to enjoy in your backyard. This could include things like water guns, water balloons, splash pads, water tables, and more.
If you want to get your kids to spend more time entertaining themselves outside this summer, consider using the tips mentioned above to help them in doing this.
