Whether you were a big fan of the cartoon series Max and Ruby when you were a child or are a parent of a kid who loves Max and Ruby, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that Max and Ruby’s parents aren’t actually dead as fans first suspected.

Why did fans assume that Max and Ruby were orphans?

In the animated series, Max and Ruby who are are siblings who also happen to be rabbits who wear clothes and live human lives, seem to live in a home by themselves. Without any adult supervision. In fact, in 14 years of episodes, Max and Ruby’s parents were never shown or talked about, like Peppa Pig’s family who are huge part of the Peppa Pig show.

In fact, since 2002 the only reference to Max and Ruby having parents was that a family picture hung in their house which showed both siblings standing with their parents for a happy family photo. As Max and Ruby never referred to either parent but two parents were visible in the siblings’ family photo, most fans believed that Max and Ruby were orphans who lived together alone as their parents had tragically passed away.

However Max and Ruby did sometimes refer to a grandmother, who didn’t live with them. Which is interesting as their grandmother was referred to but their parents were never referred to.

Proof that Max and Ruby have parents:

In 2016 a Maxy and Ruby episode shocked fans around the world as after 14 years of absence Max and Ruby’s parents finally made an appearance in an episode. In the episode, it was made apparent that Max and Ruby’s parents never left Max and Ruby alone and were living in the same house, the entire time.

Reasons why Max and Ruby’s parents were hidden for so long:

1. Children appreciate watching a program without parental figures

One of the reasons why the producers and writers of Max and Ruby may have decided to eliminate Max and Ruby’s parents from their scripts is that children like to think that can figure out their own problems without needing to be instructed by their parents. Which could be one of the main reasons why Max and Ruby’s parents were never shown to viewers.

2. Max and Ruby were able to use their own creativity to sort out their dilemmas

Most of Max and Ruby episodes featured a dilemma which Max and Ruby would learn how to figure out together. However, if their parents were always around Max and Ruby wouldn’t come up with ingenious ways to solve their problems as they’d just rely on their parents to solve their issues for them.

Further surprises:

On the same episode where Max and Ruby’s parents were revealed, Max who was the younger of the two rabbit siblings also started talking in full sentences. After spending 14 years using minimal words to express himself.

Will Max and Ruby’s parents appear in future episodes, only time will tell and audiences are divided on whether they think their favorite brother and sister duo’s parents will appear in future episodes.
